The Loxahatchee River supports many species of native animals. Among these are the bald eagle, raccoon, otter, deer, and the American Alligator. Traveling the river by canoe affords the best view of these animals, as well as a variety of plant species-even cypress trees hundreds of years old!

The complete six-hour trip, including return bus transportation, is available for $20 per person. There is no charge for children 12 and under accompanied by a parent. An hourly rate of $20/first three hours and $4/each additional hour is available if you prefer to paddle for an indefinite period of time and return the canoe to the starting point.

Canoes are available Thursday through Monday and reservations are recommended. For reservations or further information, please contact Canoe Outfitters of Florida at 561/746-7053.

Fishing

Caloosa Park, 1300 SW 35th Ave, Boynton Beach
Okeeheelee Park, 7715 Forest Hill Blvd, West Palm Beach

Caloosa and Okeeheelee Parks provide excellent locations to introduce kids of all ages to freshwater fishing. Both lakes are part of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission's Urban Fishing Program and contain an abundance of native sunfish (bream) and hatchery-raised channel catfish. These naturally produced and stocked fish grow quickly from eating the supplemental fish food that is fed to them by automatic feeders located on each lake. The lakes are stocked with catfish every year to maintain a steady supply of fish for anglers.
